The three digital monitors can provide update news that people can easy to know what happen in time, because the payphone kiosk wants to be designed to be self-sufficient, it is necessary to add some advertisement, which can effectively reduce operating costs, a digital street map can help people more easy to find the way where they want to go, also it link up with internet that people can get information on it, a booking system can help people more easy to booking a seat or meat and it will provide some recommendation of food, clothing, housing and transportation.

Payphone is design on a digital form, it contain a 9:16 digital monitor with touch function, a physical keyboard, coins and octopus payment method.
Function is little slimier as outside digital monitor, can booking seat or meat at here, checking the street map, getting information from internet, and got some advance with other people, system can link up with google account, user can open his google contacts list that help you more easy to found out the contact number that you want to call with. Also a phone call system is a must on a payphone.

As payphone kiosk has a low usage rate, based on the original setting I design some new element to encourage people to use payphone and some device that can add in kiosk, such as be the small cell for 5G networks, map finder and shop booking system run on a monitor with touch function, travelers and local residents can get useful information by using the payphone, also, boost the patronize rate of shops and restaurants that around the payphone.

Outlook

So this is what i design

• A signboard is at the top for showing information that explain what it is.
• On each side, it will have a 21:9 digital monitor on it with touch function, it will show up news and advertisement, also it include a digital system that people can checking information, booking, chatting or reading with touch function.
• The Door is make with tempered glass, it can provide a temporary safe room that can stay away from danger.

A big sky window is used, it may requirement of natural lighting, and it can increase daylighting, increase the sense of space in the place, improve the oppressive atmosphere, make the sense of space stronger, and improve the feeling of depression caused by the small space.

Also we have use the solar LED light for the lighting at night, it will auto store the power into the battery at the day time when have sun light and will use it at night, LED light will auto turn on when the light level is lower than a standard level, it can provide enough light power at night for people to use the kiosk.

The process is about this, during the daytime, the sunlight on the solar module, causing the solar cell module to generate a certain amount of DC voltage, convert the light energy into electrical energy, and then conveyed to the battery for storage. At night, when the solar module receives no light energy, the intelligent controller automatically turns on the control device to supply energy to the led, and causes the LED light source to emit sufficient brightness.

Each kiosk can provide three room for people to use, in each room will have a pay phone devices on it.

Payphone kiosk can become a very good social media, with a digital display it can show up news, advertisement and some useful information poster. With a digital system, it can provide many functions for people, such as payment, information searching, booking, chatting or reading. These are very common in the 21st century, and is very effective for attract people’s eyeball.

As Hong Kong government strive to build Hong Kong into a world-class smart city, to make people healthier, smarter, happier and more prosperous, and the city cleaner, greener, more livable, sustainable, resilient and competitive, through adopting the measures set out in this Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong, it contains six-part, Smart Mobility, Smart Living, Smart Environment, Smart People, Smart Government and Smart Economy. In Smart Living there, it contains Wi-Fi service, Digital Payment, eID, support for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities and Support for Healthcare, all items are marched in payphone kiosk project. It can become a station to provide free public Wi-Fi service to people, with a digital system and include Digital Payment on it.

In Hong Kong, there are close to three thousand payphone kiosk, According to the information obtained by HKPC from HKT, during the period of 2014 and 2015, the average daily income of the telephones operated by the company was more than HK$1 per share, accounting for about 44% of the average daily income. Not more than one dollar accounted for about fifty-six percent, this reflects that the payphone kiosk is no longer able to meet the needs of users, people use payphone kiosk even not for calling phones, they use the room for smoking or use it to be a temporary storeroom, equipment looks very dirty, most likely covered with old stickers, wads of chewed gum and graffiti, also it seems do not have any support or maintain for the payphone kiosk, this all cased that why payphone kiosk usage is low, in order to improve a situation, we need to redesign the payphone kiosk usage. After I finish the field observe, street interview and doing some research on the internet, people universal request payphone kiosk can contain Synchronize Self Phone Book, Street Map, Multiple Payment Methods, Booking, and free power charging functions. They told me that sometime if they forgot take his smart phone, if the payphone kiosk can synchronize his phone book contacts number it will help him a lot, a street map is very helpful for tourist, local people also love a street map when they are getting lost on the street, and Hong Kong is going to be a no coin city, so e-payment is a must for the future construction, people don’t want to wait, a booking system can help people to lower the waiting time, they also want to have a free power charging station, they can easily to recharge there devices if their devices is running low.

As payphone kiosk has a low usage rate, payphone fast become a legend, how to rise up the usage of the payphone kiosk is an important topic to thinking about, with the future development and popularization of 5G networks, payphone kiosk can be the small cell for 5G networks. It contains electric power and network, is a very good spot to become a small cell, with a result of having grown up with broad access to and knowledge of technology, social media is very common in the 21st century, a digital interface can easier to share news or information to people, this more in line with the needs of modern society.

Payphone kiosk is a part of Hong Kong infrastructure, ordinance, as public payphone considered a basic service under the universal service obligation, which should be made available to all persons in Hong Kong, in spite of this, however, with the popularity of smartphones, the latest statistics released by Trade Development Council shows, the mobile penetration rate reached 232 percent last year, which means everyone in Hong Kong has at least two cell phones., with the increasing penetration of smartphones has not helped the humble payphones kiosk, peoples almost forgot the payphone kiosk because the smartphone can do all the things that a payphone can, even much more, and with the widespread use of instant communication applications such as Google Talk and Skype, it’s cheaper for people making calls at places where free Wi-Fi is available, this make public pay phone quickly toward extinction, despite the rise of the smartphone, as the low using rate should the payphone be removed? Some cities have tried this way, causing some public dissatisfaction. Because the payphone kiosk still has some users, it also can takes on emergency calls, emergency alarms, anonymous reports, etc.

So the best way is thinking how to activation the payphone usage, payphone kiosk are all public spaces, make a telephone calling may be “outdated", but it does not mean that public space is useless. We need to do something to change this situation, the existing capabilities of public kiosks are no longer able to meet our current needs, so we need to add more function to fulfill people’s needs. Some country has turned the payphone kiosk become a Wi-Fi launch station, some installed solar panels on the top of payphone kiosk to provide free chargers for mobile phones and some turned it into a reading space, This all changes are a good way to activate payphone usage.
